Michael Court, 22, and Dylan Pike, 20, both pleaded guilty to affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company as CCTV footage of the frenzied group attack was aired in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday.
The footage shows the victim being set upon by a group of five men, who punch him repeatedly as a train pulls into the station.
Pike is also shown to grab the man by the head and knee him in the face.
The victim was left with significant facial swelling and a perforated ear drum from the attack.
Documents tendered to the court reveal the wild assault occurred after a teenage boy objected to being told to pick up the rubbish he had just discarded on the station platform.
The boy left the station and returned a short time later with four friends, including Court and Pike, who told a psychologist he'd downed 24 stubbies of beer and ingested two lines of cocaine prior to the assault.
Court can be seen on the footage to throw one punch then move away as Pike came up behind the man and began laying into him.
Investigating officers said the assault last between three and four minutes.
In court on Tuesday, Magistrate Michael Love sentenced Pike to eight months' jail and Court to seven months' jail.
"The facts are quite disturbing - it's incredibly lucky the victim didn't fall back into the moving train," Magistrate Love said.
"While I accept he's taken steps to rehabilitate himself this is an incredibly serious matter.
"The community is sick and tired of alcohol-fuelled violence.
"Community safety must be the paramount consideration is sentencing."
Pike was supported in court by his mother, while Court had his father accompany him into the courtroom.
Court lodged an immediate appeal against his sentence and was released on bail until the appeal can be heard in Wollongong District Court.
