Plans for the revitalisation of the Warilla town centre continue, with residents able to provide their feedback on the concept designs.
The Town Centre Plan for Warilla sets out a framework to help create a "vibrant, attractive, accessible and convenient town centre".
On the Mercury Facebook page, we asked readers what would be needed to create a more "vibrant" CBD in Warilla.
Below are some of the responses:
- "The surf club that has had renos on it for the past feels like three years should be like the ones in Queensland! Beach bar and food! Brings people in and the main street would hopefully evolve with it."
- "Wall art, street art over the graffiti...And trees...Nicer parks."
- "Make Warilla more of a beachside spot - outdoor eating, more trees, better nighttime lighting... As a start."
- "One of the best beaches is minutes away, it should be embraced by that. Bring back the live bands at the pub and make it family orientated again, seems it's just focused on pokies now."
- "Make it a cafe strip like with have in Newcastle. George Street could be great again, but not with what's there now. More cafes = more people.
- "Make it bike and pedestrian friendly. Wide footpaths and bike lanes leading there from the highway all the way to the beach and lake. Reduce the speed limit to 30km. Lots of shade. Subsidise live music from the local venues and encourage alfresco dining by not charging businesses a fee. An empty shop levy might also encourage landlords to rent out their premises instead of using them as a tax write-off."
- "Shellharbour is around the corner with their shopping centre, they'd be best to put boutique/flagship stores and strip of restaurants. Prob not now with everything going but when everything blows over."
- "Needs some colour, all the buildings are old so we need some other way to brighten it up. I've lived here 26 years and George St has always looked bland. New footpath, updated bins, etc."
- "More alfresco dining... Sunday arvo wine bar with live music featuring local artists ... Maybe a once a month street fair like Dapto has the street eats in the showground entrance."
Feedback can be provided on Shellharbour City Council's Let's Chat page until June 21.
