She did her research, and came up with a design that worked - made from 100 per cent cotton, the masks comprise of three layers, are reversible and come in range of great fabrics.
At first Mrs Nuske got them made up and gave them away for free to older, more vulnerable members of the community.
Then, as demand grew, and she needed to buy more fabric and employ sewers, she started to sell them on online marketplace Etsy.
In the last week - with masks now mandatory in COVID hotspots in Victoria and fears of a second wave of the virus also in NSW - orders have "exploded".
"A lot of people don't like wearing the surgical masks as they look dull and clinical, so I wanted to give them a choice to wear something that they'd be more comfortable wearing - that would match their outfit," Mrs Nuske said.
"When demand started to rise I put them on my Facebook page, and then started to sell them on Etsy and this past week-and-a-half it's just exploded."
The masks can be found on Etsy under Mrs Nuske's venture SheLovesAustralia - so named because the Brazilian born woman does love the place she's called home for two decades.
Overnight, 16 people have tested positive to COVID-19 in NSW, after 18,465 people were tested in 24 hours. It brings the total confirmed cases in the state to 3425.
NSW Health says people should observe social distancing and hygiene measures and consider wearing a face mask in situations where social distancing is not possible.
