On the back of three-straight wins at provincial level, the six-year-old will contest a 1200 metre benchmark 78 at Rosehill.
The trainer recognises her charge is in for a tough outing, but she's optimistic jockey Tommy Berry will negotiate the traffic to produce a good result.
"He deserves his chance in the city," Bateup said.
"They split the race and he ended up in the race that wasn't suited to him from a speed point of view. He's also drawn barrier one, which for most horses is great, but he excels when he can get back and do his own thing, then get to the outside.
"We're hoping the rain doesn't arrive. If the track stays soft, it will be alright, but I wouldn't like it to be a heavy track. If it becomes an absolute bog, we might not go around."
The trip to Sydney comes amid a purple patch for the Kembla Grange trainer, with Monegal leading a number of impressive results to close out the 2019-20 season.
She opened the new year with a win to Ma Bella Rosie in Moruya on Tuesday, and is confident she can add to that with a pair of country runners in the coming days.
Recent stable addition Club Legend will contest a 2000m maiden plate, while Foxtrot Bravo will travel to Wagga on Sunday for a 1600m maiden handicap.
"It could be a four horse field for Club Legend in Canberra," Bateup said.
"He's been going super, he's only had three runs since coming up from Victoria and the last two have been great. The step up to 2000m should suit."
