The search entered its third day on Friday, with more than a hundred community members being enlisted to help.
The co-ordinated search by emergency services concluded at 6pm on Friday, and will resume on Saturday morning around Killalea.
The community effort has been led by Courtney Hyland, 19.
The East Corrimal teenager said she often visited Bass Point.
During a visit to Bass Point on Wednesday, Ms Hyland and friends saw the police search for Mr Sovrano was under way.
They began searching, and Ms Hyland took to Facebook on Wednesday, calling for volunteers to help.
Since then, volunteers have been meeting at the third car park at Bass Point.
She said the community response had been "overwhelming" and "amazing".
"His family are worried sick about him, it could be anyone's family member - mine or anyone else's," Ms Hyland said.
"I just wanted to help as much as I possibly can to bring him safely back to his family."
She estimated more than a hundred community members had heeded the call.
"There's people who have been out since 5am, and people working until like 11pm, looking through bushes, driving around calling out his name.
"It's really amazing to see the community all coming together at this hard time."
Ms Hyland has also been calling for businesses to help by providing food and water to assist searchers in the community as well as emergency service crew members.
Mr Sovrano's family have also joined in the search. His daughter, Miryana Markoulis told WIN News they had "no idea where Dad is".
"He has dementia, and he could be very confused, or at this point hypothermic," she said.
"He has diabetes type two as well."
She thanked community members who have helped with the search so far.
