Last week the Mercury reported Wollongong City Council and Transport for NSW were in discussions about how to increase safety in high pedestrian areas - reducing the limit to 30km/h was one option to address that.
But Mr Park felt adding another speed limit for motorists to keep in mind was the wrong approach.

"I don't want to see motorists forced to be worrying about yet another speed limit change when in fact wherever possible we should be reducing the number of different speed limits that are used on NSW roads," Mr Park said.
Instead he called for increased police enforcement of existing 40km/h and 50km/h zones and fast-tracking the roll-out of crossing supervisors in school areas.
"Council could play a proactive role by enhancing footpaths around local communities that allow students to walk to school safely," he said.
