On Wednesday night, Football South Coast announced that Tsovolos and Cringila forward Toby Norval were the two nominees for the George Naylor Medal as the IPL's Player of the Year.
Tsovolos played a key role in United's charge towards the grand final, while Norval was the Lions' standout, scoring six goals in 11 games.
"I was a bit surprised to be honest," Tsovolos said.
"I thought there were a few other boys, especially on our team, who had really good seasons. But it's an honour to be nominated for the award."
United's Oli Vrtkovski and Woonona's Dan McGoldrick are up for the IPL's Coach of the Year Award.
Woonona's Jair Fernandez and Coniston's Blake Horton will compete for the IPL Goalkeeper of the Year Award, while Bellambi's Vaughan Patterson has also wrapped up the Top Goal Scorer honour.
All IPL individual award winners will be announced ahead of Sunday's grand final.
