About 10.15pm Tuesday night, a black Mazda CX-5 was travelling east on Lake Entrance Road, when it left the roadway and collided with a power pole.
The driver, a 27-year-old woman, freed herself from the vehicle and walked a short distance to Shellharbour Hospital with the rear passenger, a two-year-old boy.
The woman was taken to St George Hospital with non-life-threatening internal injuries, while the child was taken to Sydney Children's Hospital with a fractured leg.
Police attended and established a crime scene, which was forensically examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
Investigations are continuing; anyone with information or dash cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
