Funds raised at the Wednesday, May 19 event will be used to purchase equipment for The Disability Trust's new CycleAbility Program.
Launching this month, CycleAbility will support independence, health, fitness and social inclusion for people with disability through the use of bicycles as active transport.
The event will include live entertainment from Kath Ellis, as well as finger food, beer and raffle prizes. It will kick off with The Trust's chief operating officer Ed Birt's account of his recent completion of the Indian Pacific Wheel Ride, from Fremantle WA to the Sydney Opera House.
Mr Birt undertook the ride to raise funds and awareness for inclusive transport.
Recent improvements in cycling infrastructure in the region have brought cycling into the spotlight.
However, people with disability are significantly underrepresented in the cycling community.
CycleAbility will provide skills, knowledge and safety when using Wollongong's cycling infrastructure.
This empowering program will be facilitated through The Disability Trust's Sport and Recreation team and will run on the last Saturday of every month, starting May 29.
The program will be run from The Disability Trust's head office car park in Wollongong (5 Edney Lane, Spring Hill), and will focus on fun, developing skills, safety while riding, bicycle maintenance and repair, as well as getting to know the Wollongong Cycle network.
