Botanic Gardens Day is the signature event for Wollongong Botanic Garden, which is also celebrating its year-long golden jubilee anniversary.
As part of the celebrations Gardening Australia's Costa Georgiadis and Clarence Slockee lead some of the day's events.
Buggy tours, an exclusive behind-the-scenes look work conserving threatened plant species, the botanic art and photography exhibition, and garden power demonstrations were also included.
A Tree Musketeers Show and all-day scavenger hunt kept kids engaged. Seven year-old Orla Mulddon was not the first child to be enchanted by magic trees.
The Garden also launched their 'Go Slow for a 'Mo' Nature Trail.
The self-guided walk focuses on creating meaningful moments in nature to help people connect with their surroundings to support physical and mental health.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said more than 100 botanic gardens across Australia and New Zealand took part in the day.
"Wollongong Botanic Garden is not only a beautiful place to visit and reconnect with nature, but it provides an important educational link for our community to learn about the importance of biodiversity,'' he said.
The day's theme was the power of plants and their influence on weather and climate stabilisation, their value as food, wildlife habitat, in research and medicine, and their impact on our wellbeing.
