Despite all the noise and flashes of light, the State Emergency Service in the Illawarra received no calls for assistance in the hours after the storm.
The Bureau of Meteorology has informed the SES the storm season was likely to bring increased chances of strong winds, heavy rain and the likelihood of floods.
NSW SES Commissioner Carlene York said people should spend the time ensuring they were prepared for wild weather.
"This includes having an emergency kit ready, knowing what your evacuation plan is, and even having a plan for your animals - big or small," she said.
