Emily Chapman and Jaimi Colquhoun's nephew, Tarj Baxter, was on his way home from a family day out when he fell down a cliff at Gerringong on Saturday.
He has been in an induced coma in Randwick Children's Hospital ever since.
His aunts started a GoFundMe to help the family cover living expenses while Tarj is in hospital.
By Thursday afternoon the fundraiser was just $5000 shy of its $60,000 target, with one donor, Yeoryios Kyriakos Markos, contributing $33,000.
The family has no idea who this is. They do not show up on a Facebook search. An ABN linked to that name is connected to businesses registered in Victoria, but no further details about Mr Markos could be found.
Ms Chapman said the family was beyond grateful for the support they had received.
"I'm hoping we can go above and beyond to give [Tarj's parents] Stacy and Darren a real boost, and perhaps even look to support the Toll Rescue Helicopter service," she said.
After the family were overwhelmed with well-wishes, Ms Chapman established a Facebook page to keep the community updated on Tarj's condition.
She said Tarj remains in a medically-induced coma, has suffered three bleeds on his brain, a broken tibia and fibula, fractured eye socket and significant bruising to his body.
"His condition remains stable with the trauma care team indicating at this point that he will remain in ICU for up to four weeks with a further three-to-six months in hospital for rehabilitation/recovery," Ms Chapman posted in an update.
"This is all dependent on the extent of his injuries as we won't know what this looks like until he awakes."
