Craig Morris said the idea was raised in a Facebook group for local mountain bike riders, and met an enthusiastics response.
"Once lockdown lifted we set the date for December 12," he said. "More than 40 people came and removed an enormous amount of rubbish from the bush around Clive Bissel Drive - it took about three and a half hours."
Mr Morris said riders were always dismayed to see the bush being used as a dumping ground.
"A big part of mountain bike riding is connection with the environment - we love the bush as much as everyone, and want to look after it," he said.
"We found all sorts of junk and rubbish, fridges, lounges, toilets, mattresses, car parts, electrical wiring, pallets, drums, corrugated iron and more than 40 hessian sacks of cans, bottles and general litter.
"It's really disgraceful the number of people who dump their rubbish anywhere they think they can get away with it."
