The team members are all new to the Body Shop chain, having started when the new store opened at Stockland Shellharbour last June.
Each employee has committed to walking 10,000 steps a day during the challenge in recognition of the distances women and girls in developing countries have to walk every day for water, food, firewood, school, health services and to earn an income.
Store manager Olivia Clee said it was a great way for her new team to bond and engage in some friendly competition.
Tracey Kalajzich has taken the early lead.
"I have raised $190," she said.
"I have been campaigning for sponsors through my email and on Facebook."
The Shellharbour team is up against 87 others from Body Shop stores across Australia and is hoping to raise at least $1000.
Shoppers have also been encouraged to take part in the campaign.
Ms Clee said customers could pick up a Walk In Her Shoes Starter Kit in store and then register online at www.walkin hershoes.org.au and start walking.
She said the Shellharbour team was already tracking their steps at work and at home with pedometers, available in each starter kit.
"We have all purchased a pedometer for $9.95 and we are all doing the walk," she said.
The $1000 will build a well and provide five years' maintenance.
"It will also help the towns around it, so we should hopefully be helping around 4000 people."
