Owned by Ron Medich Properties Pty Limited, the 1.19-hectare parcel of land between Gerroa and Gerringong was once the site of the Beachlands homestead, which burnt down in mysterious circumstances a decade ago.
The property, at 16 Crooked River Road, next to the Gerringong Golf Course, was bought by Ron Medich Properties Pty Limited for $2.19 million in 2007.
It became the subject of a legal dispute between Ron Medich and Sydney businessman, Michael McGurk, who was murdered in September 2009.
The property later featured in hearings conducted by the Independent Commission Against Corruption into allegations of corruption made by Mr McGurk, although ICAC found the allegations were without substance.
The state government had granted approval for 10 units and a commercial premises on the site. However, that approval has now lapsed.
Under Kiama's new LEP, the site is now zoned E3 (environmental management), which does not permit multi-dwelling housing but does allow other uses, such as bed and breakfast accommodation, information and education facilities, kiosks and recreation areas.
The site has been listed for auction on July 6 through Gerringong's Dick Payne First National Real Estate.
The same agency sold the land at auction in 2002 on behalf of Kiama council for $1.13 million to Palladian Pacific.
According to Australian Property Monitors, 2012 was a big year for sales of picturesque land between Gerringong and Gerroa, albeit land holdings of a larger size.
In May 2012, Elouera, a 21.68-hectare oceanfront reserve property at 75 Crooked River Road, Gerroa, sold at auction for $5.03 million, $2.23 million above the reserve price.
Then in September 2012, a 40-hectare parcel at 242 Fern St, Gerringong sold for $7 million, purchased by Robby Ingham Pty Ltd.
