Bulli eatery Bon Aroma taken off the menu

BF Group Pty Ltd, the company that ran the eatery dubbed Australia's Best Pizza Restaurant in 2011, opted to voluntarily wind up its operations, and appointed a liquidator on August 5.

The restaurant suddenly closed on July 21, leaving more than 20 employees without work.

Liquidator Cliff Sanderson told the Mercury on Tuesday that four employees were owed about $17,000 in unpaid entitlements.

He said the staff would be eligible to make a claim against the General Employee Entitlements and Redundancy Scheme (GEERS). The government-funded scheme covers outstanding wages and leave but not unpaid superannuation.

"We're about to send letters to the employees to help them through the GEERS process," Mr Sanderson said.

"Entitlements other than super should be fine but [staff] just have to be aware it's not an instant thing, it does take one or two months.

"It's a good process, it is fair - and if there are disputes it goes in favour of the employee."

Mr Sanderson said if the company was not able to come up with the money, the tax and superannuation debt would be left unpaid.

The liquidator said the BF Group did not own the building that housed the restaurant or most of the equipment inside.

The Princes Highway premises were up for sale through Dougmal Harcourts Northern Beaches but taken off the market last Friday.

The landlord could not be reached for comment.

Mr Sanderson said he was not currently negotiating to sell the business rights or name.

"No-one has spoken to me about it," he said.

"The landlord owns the property. He can rent it to whoever he likes but they can't come in and operate Bon Aroma - not without speaking to me first."

The liquidator is set to formally investigate the company's finances.

Bon Aroma regularly won South Coast and regional restaurant and catering awards.
