IMB's national manager for Commercial Lending and Business Banking Terry Widdicombe teamed up with Illawarra Women in Business directors Glenda Papac and Delyse Del Turco on Friday to give many women busy running small businesses in the region a chance to network.
Mr Widdicombe said it was particularly pleasing to see businesses who had become finalists the first time they entered going on to win a category the following year.
He said it was important for any business to build networks and that was why he saw great value in supporting events such as the monthly IWIB Coffee Clubs.
The next one is at TIGS on July 4.
Share experiences
One of the most humble small businesswomen in the Illawarra is speaking at the next IWIB networking lunch on June 13 at Seacliff Functions & Dining.
Karen Meiring de Gonzalez, of Skin Correctives, is renowned for encouraging and pushing forward others for recognition at the IWIB and Illawarra Business Chamber awards.
Mrs de Gonzalez has even talked many businesswomen into entering the same category as her at business awards because she wants to see them succeed.
The 2013 State Business Awards finalist and 2014 Australian Small Business Awards finalist will next month share some of her personal journey in business.
IWIB directors Glenda Papac and Delyse del Turco asked Mrs Gonzalez to speak because they think she will encourage many of the network's members.
Chamber wants help
The Illawarra Business Chamber is encouraging local business to help the NSW Business Chamber with a Workers Compensation Survey it is doing in relation to reforms made to the NSW government workers compensation system in June 2012 to address a scheme deficit of $4.1 billion.
The government has announced an independent review of the scheme reforms and the state chamber wants help from business in shaping its submission.
A short survey at surveymonkey.com/s/nswbcworkerscomp2014 is providing that opportunity until May 30.
