Rio de Janeiro: An overpass in Brazil that was part of the World Cup infrastructure plan has collapsed onto vehicles below.
The overpass in Cup host city Belo Horizonte collapsed on Thursday afternoon. Local news media quote firefighters on the scene as saying at least one person has died and another 10 are injured.
Live TV images showed what appeared to be a school bus and other vehicles trapped under the rubble.
It's at least the second lethal construction accident in Brazil in the past month. In early June, a construction worker was killed when a concrete beam that's part of the Sao Paulo monorail project fell.
Reporters covering the games said that some of the infrastructure for the World Cup appeared to have been rushed through and in several places left incomplete.
Throughout the lead up to the World Cup there has been concern over the readiness of many of the stadia and urban renewal projects designed to provide the nation of sprawling cities with a World Cup infrastructure dividend.
Belo Horizonte will host a semi-final World Cup game on July 8.
