The Illawarra representative side met tough competition at an inter-zone series in Newcastle last weekend and couldn't come away with a winning record.
Three tough matches against Sydney Northern (Zone 9), Western NSW (Zone 4) and Newcastle (Zone 2) saw the Zone 16 squad finish with one win and two loses from the weekend.
Illawarra suffered a marginal 79-67 defeat to Zone 4 first-up before they produced some stellar bowling to overcome Zone 9 95-81.
In their final match against the hosts, Illawarra couldn't match it with Newcastle and went down 93-78.
"We held a lot of shots but we must give credit to their skips, they played beautiful," Illawarra selector Terry Seton said.
"Going into the final game we had all won a game each so everyone still had a chance."
"In the final wash up I think we conducted ourselves very well."
The competition is used to help finalise selection for the annual NSW Inter-Zone tournament in September this year.
Illawarra have drawn in a section with South East (Zone 7), Newcastle (Zone 2) and defending champions Sydney Southern (Zone 13).
