Contemporary, colourful and whimsical is how Airynaa Tannberg describes herself and her art.
The Wollongong artist feels this description also perfectly sums up the Creative Corrimal Arts Festival.
The 73-year-old will be one of only two artists in action at Corrimal Park Mall during the inaugural festival this Saturday.
The April 18 event will also feature displays of almost 100 art works and include seven musical acts and plenty of fun activities for young and old alike.
The Corrimal Revitalisation Action Group (CRAG) and community volunteers have organised the festival to showcase artwork and make a valuable contribution to Corrimal.
Event contributor Louise Beaton, of Corrimal Region Uniting Church, said it was a moving festival.
"The day will be a mixture of all parts of the community coming together," Ms Beaton said.
"The festival fills a great need in the community and a chance for artists to be appreciated."
The art walking trail - a planned walk through exhibit spaces and workshops - will be the festival's main feature.
Event organiser and Corn Mill Art Gallery owner Ken Finlayson will also be hosting talks on buying art as well as exhibiting artwork in his gallery.
Project lead Gayle Russell said artists have created sculptures and paintings highlighting the environment theme.
"Big Fat Smile have also captured the theme of our festival and will display their kids' work in their studio and have their workshop open for kids.
"Corrimal Park Mall has also come on board … we will have their front shop filled with supplementary displays," she said.
"The public on the day can also vote for their favourite art piece and go in a draw to win a hamper."
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery will open the festival from 10am
near the steam train in Memorial Park.
The festival runs from 10am-3pm.
