McGuigans Wines intends to keep sponsoring the St George Illawarra Dragons for another three years.
Neil McGuigan made the announcement at a McGuigans winemakers dinner in Wollongong just after the Dragons played their last home game of the season at WIN Stadium.
"We have sponsored the Dragons for three years now and we are going to sponsor it for another three years which is fantastic," he said.
Mr McGuigan said he loved coming to Wollongong for many years. But during the last three years the visits had been more regular because of McGuigans Wines' sponsorship of the Dragons.
Mr McGuigan was very happy to have as dinner guests at the Lagoon two of the greats from the team. But he also made the most of their wives outplaying their partners in one of his wine tasting competitions.
"We have Dan and Nadine Hunt and also Wendell and Tara Sailor," he said. "Dan and Nadine actually got married in the Hunter Valley. They had their reception at one of our wineries."
The three-time international winemaker of the year said Hunt and Sailor were great ambassadors for their sport and the team.
"The St George guys actually have quite a bit of involvement with our business," Mr McGuigan said.
"They actually come to a number of events and also do a lot of work for us. People love meeting them and they are very outgoing guys and they do a great job for the sponsors and that is something the Dragons can be very proud of. Because they do get involved with the sponsors."
Mr McGuigan said the Dragons were playing well late in the season.
Support the models
Aanyone who wants to support the 50 models competing for a chance to win a trip to Germany and the opportunity to walk the catwalk in Europe, can do so from this Saturday. Heats for Illawarra's Top Model run over the next two weekends.
The first heat starts at midday on September 5, in Crown Street Mall. And if the weather turns bad it will be in front of Coles.
Best Dad Awards
Winners of the annual Best Dad Awards will be announced in Wollongong and Albion Park this Sunday.
The annual event, staged by Lighthouse on Father's Day, is designed to give proud children, grandkids and wives the chance to shine a light on their influential bloke.
Awards founder Paul Bartlett said it was also a chance to showcase the amazing and selfless dads in the community.
He said one thing he had noticed from the competition was that most dads, when they were nominated by their families, realised they were actually doing a better job than they thought they were. "Even with all the pressures of modern life and work, most fathers place a really high priority on being actively involved in family life," he said.
