Chamber chief executive Debra Murphy came in at the end of the final judges meeting on Tuesday to thank all the judges who met in the Mike Codd building at the University of Wollongong Innovation Campus to cast their votes for the business of the year.
There are 52 finalists chosen from more than 100 entries this year.
The most fierce competition was in the excellence in small business, excellence in customer service, excellence in innovation and outstanding new Illawarra business award categories.
NowChem, Internetrix, Microsolve, Barrington Homes and Flagstaff Group were each named a finalist in two or more categories.
Winners will be announced at a garden soiree on Friday, October 23 at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, where former Illawarra Business of the Year winner Culinarius by Monika, owned by Monika Armstrong, is helping with the food.
