A number of Shellharbour/Warilla station crews – along with police and paramedics – were called to a fire at a property on Ulster Avenue before 7pm.
Firefighters on the scene said the garage at the rear of a house was “well alight” and fully involved in fire.
A granny flat at the back of the property was also reportedly affected.
HAZMAT crews were also dispatched, as it was reported that the gas cylinders were “venting” due to heat.
Police evacuated people in nearby houses as a precaution, with residents spilling into the street opposite Warilla Public School.
However, the gas cylinders were quickly cooled with water spray and the fire was contained by 7.30pm, according to Fire and Rescue NSW.
