Apprentice of the Year was Billy Fox who completed his apprenticeship at The Sage Hotel in Wollongong while doing a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery. Last year Mr Fox traveled to Singapore to develop his skills in one of its top restaurants. He recently spent two months in Cambodia volunteering with Projects Abroad to help locals improve hygiene, diet and housing.
He also completed the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards week-long training program last January and is now busily training for the Worldskills Competition to be held in Melbourne in October.
Trainee of the Year was Lily Nugent who completed a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing traineeship at Merimbula Vet Clinic.
Ms Nugent said her passion for animals and their welfare had been a lifelong pursuit and wants to go to university in 2017 and become a veterinary surgeon.
Friday’s regional section of the NSW Training Awards were presented by the Vocational Training Committee (VTC) for Illawarra & South East NSW.
Members of the committee include representatives from industry, training organisations, apprenticeship support networks and Training Services NSW.
