“We want to create a new banner to indicate the key projects we do for the local community,” Peter Abba said.
Others behind the move to promote the great work Rotarians do are Anne McQueen and Ian Fitzgibbon.
Among those are the new shelter at William Beach Park.
Mr Fitzgibbon said it was named after the professional Australian sculler who was unbeaten as World Sculling Champion from 1884 to 1887.
“It is a big project between the Rotary Club of Dapto and Wollongong City Council,” Mr Abba said.
“It is good enough to hold about 24 people. It has made a huge difference to the whole park.”
Mr Abba said Dapto Rotary had done a considerable work at the popular community site for many years.
It has been involved in clearing the area and removing rubbish to make it an even better public space.
As a result ongoing development to facilities such as a children’s playground has made it a popular space for locals, particularly families.
But the Rotary Club of Dapto does much more.
It recently worked with people of all ages in the community who got together on October 30 to become local heroes in the fight against graffiti on Graffiti Removal Day.
That is just a part of an ongoing campaign involving many members of Dapto Rotary lead by graffiti co-ordinator Mick Chamberlain.
Mr Chamberlain and his team do such work every week with the help of many supporters such as Graffiti removal: Dulux, Dapto Chamber of Commerce, NSW Attorney General and Justice, Dapto Leagues, Dapto Mall, Amcal Max, Wollongong City Council, Dapto Dogs and Premium Tyre Service Dapto.
It is considered important because Graffiti vandalism costs local businesses, households, NSW Government and Wollongong City Council millions of dollars each year.
And that money could be invested into roads, sporting facilities, schools and hospitals.
Another example of the work the Rotary Club of Dapto does is the blue barbecue trailer has for many years helped feed people at community events around Dapto.
Mr Fitzgibbon said it was regularly used for the Rise and Shine campaign, the annual Dapto Street Fair, Seniors Day at Don’s Farm at Avondale and on ANZAC Day at the Dapto RSL for the dawn service on April 25 each year.
The Rotary Club of Dapto meets every Tuesday night at Dapto Leagues Club from 6pm.
