The ageing building is also flood prone and bush fire susceptible, according to information on the council’s website, and will be updated with a cafe and kiosk similar to those at Bulli and Corrimal tourist parks.
With a covered dining deck, outdoor seating area, kitchen, servery and unisex toilets, the new facility will be “food premises compliant, flood free and fire resistant”.
The council is planning to install the purpose built cafe/kiosk by December next year.
Information on the council’s Have Your Say site acknowledges the “local significance” of the existing building, but notes it is not heritage listed.
“A purpose built cafe/kiosk will ensure the community and tourists, continue to have access to an important facility,” the information says.
The new plans will be on public exhibition until November 25, after which the council will proceed with detailed designs and approvals.
The old building will then be knocked down with a temporarily facility to open during construction.
A public information session will be held at the reserve on November 12.
