The founders of ‘The Significant Marriage’ seminar will present it in Kiama from May 19-21.
American couple Mary and Dave Gothi have travelled internationally with the aim of helping couples understand each others’ differences in personality, love styles and family backgrounds, “which shape who we are and impact our everyday lives, and especially our marriages”.
The Kiama event is being organised by Kathy and Glen Grigg, who recently relocated from Sydney to Kiama.
“The seminar is taught from an evidence-based approach including strengths theory, psychology, and coaching methodology as well as Biblical wisdom that helps couples discover positive behaviours, and then to design action plans for continued relational investment,” Mrs Grigg said.
“They teach that each couple is unique and has potential to be more than just ordinary.
“The seminar has been run six times in Australia since 2014 and about 70 couples have attended to date.
“The seminars have also run in the USA, Europe, and India and over 1000 couples have now attended.”
Mrs Grigg, 58, and her husband, 60, have been married for ten years.
They have eight children between them.
“This is both of our second marriage… So we have a bit of a passion for helping people have good marriages and good communication, because we’ve both been through the pain of divorce,” she said.
“We’ve actually been trained to deliver the seminar as well, and we’ve done that in Sydney.
“But because the founders, those who developed the course are coming out we won’t be presenting.”
Mrs Grigg emphasised that the seminar is based on Christian principles, “but it has been presented in multi-faith settings”.
“There’s no pressure to share within the group, and there’s no pressure to adopt any particular faith stance,” she said.
“People do really enjoy it. They’re a fun couple and they present very enthusiastically.
“It’s a fun thing to do, it’s not a chore.”
The event venue is still to be confirmed, but will be in Kiama.
