The paratrooper turned author will be presenting a talk at Kiama Library.
A former paratrooper, Allen served in three Commonwealth armies across two decades and four continents. He left the military due to injuries, retiring at the rank of Major.
In addition to his military career, Allen has served with three law enforcement agencies in Australia, led security operations for an international aid agency in East Timor during the emergency in 1999, and was headhunted to take over the protection of the Sydney Opera House.
Allen later decided to write his Intrepid action/thriller series, featuring protagonist Alex Morgan.
The first novel in the Intrepid series, Defender, was originally self-published before being re-released by Pan Macmillan’s digital imprint Momentum along with his second novel, Hunter, in 2012. The third in the series, Avenger, was released at the end of 2014 with Helldiver and Ranger following.
“In developing each of the stories I look for current issues as backdrops to the fiction,” Allen said.
“In Defender it was gun running and the exploitation of struggling nations.
“In Hunter it was the hunt for fugitive war criminals… With Avenger I dealt with human trafficking.”
Allen said he has “reached a really exciting point in the life of the series”.
“I’m currently writing the sixth and seventh Alex Morgan stories,” he said.
The Gerringong resident will be discussing the series and more at a free author talk/book signing at Kiama Library on Saturday, June 24 at 2.30pm.
