It seemed spring had sprung on Wednesday with the warm air and blue skies lifting spirits.
Wollongong’s Botanic Garden is well and truly in bloom with several species flowering early.
The magnolia trees in particular have been putting on a show.
Temperatures reached 20.4 degrees at Kiama 19.8 at Bellambi, but relative humidity readings around 70 per cent made it feel even less like winter. It was a particularly bizarre day at Albion Park, which started the day barely above freezing – a low of 1.9 degrees at 6.26am – before peaking at 20.3 degrees at 1.41pm.
Most parts of southwest Sydney were above 21 degrees on Wednesday but didn’t quite pack the humidity experienced in Wollongong.
Before you get excited about spring, however, Thursday is set to cool down again, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting a high of 16 degrees in Wollongong and a 40 per cent chance of rain.
