Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) held an international conference in Sydney recently to report on the projects’ successes in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste - particularly celebrating the 65 per cent to 99 per cent incidence reduction of malaria over the past 10 years in these regions.

Rotary funds and distributes diagnostic screening tools and insecticide netting, working with the local communities on site to raise awareness and to develop malaria prevention strategies.
A PhD student from the Australian Institute of Tropical Medicine at James Cook University is funded by a Rotary scholarship as part of this effort.
With a grant and a fund-raising cinema night, the Illawarra Rotary Clubs met to promote and support the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in our region.
The program improves early life literacy for children from disadvantaged backgrounds by giving them a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book each month from birth to age five.
KIAMA LIONS CLUB
Grateful Thanks to Gerringong Lions member Karl Kunze who helped our Lions Jason Kearns and Tony Grainger straighten the uprights on the southern wall of the Carers cottage, so that the cladding can be attached with much less difficulty.
We will be having another working bee in the near future.
Our next dinner meeting will on September 14.
It will be partners and guests night and we will be trying out the refurbishments of the Olive and Vine restaurant.
Already looking towards October one can see that we will be busy with the Blue Haven fete and Driver Reviver, plus the annual visit of the District Governor, but we also have the exciting prospect of another Happy Hour towards the end of the month.
KIAMA MIXED PROBUS
Kiama Mixed Probus meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month in the Auditorium of the Kiama Leagues Club at 11am for 11.30am. The meeting is followed by a meal. For more information contact Annette on 42322550.
