Five years ago, there were seven teams playing for Gerringong, now there are 14 teams, comprised mainly of junior players.
On Saturday, the club thanked Kiama MP Gareth Ward for finding $6000 in the state budget to fund new floodlights.
The club’s fundraising efforts to resurface the court have been fruitful, but they haven’t met their target yet, so they will continue to work towards that goal because at present, the courts become too dangerous to train on when it starts to rain.
Teams play on Saturday morning, and train every week.
This season, eight teams qualified for finals in the Kiama competition.
There are 10 club players on Kiama’s representative squad, and two trialling for the state squad.
Club committee members, a group of local parents, want to continue building the club by encouraging the kids, who often bring their friends along.
