We've had our ups and downs to start the season but we’ve done enough to avoid that fate. However, we’re all well aware that we can lose it in this next eight weeks.
We’ve got to go in with a completely new mindset. We’re not 5-6 we’re 0-0 and that’s the way we’re approaching this next phase.
We’ve got Melbourne on the road and then seven games straight at home. It’s a good run, but we’ve got United three times and Perth twice. We can’t just think being on our home floor is going to get it done for us.
The two-week break has been absolutely tremendous for us. We had a lot of guys carrying niggles and it’s allowed them to get on top of that. It’s also about trying to refresh the minds as much as the bodies.
I’ve got a philosophy that, if you eat chicken every day of your life you’ll end up hating chicken. You’ve got to mix up the menu and that’s what we’ve done. I’ve tried to change up the way we practice and the way we’ve done things.
We’ve made some subtle changes to what we’re doing offensively and defensively just to re-stimulate the minds and get the guys thinking again.
I’ve got no doubt Melbourne have done the same thing. They’ve got a new coach and a lot of new players and, like a lot of teams, they still haven’t quite found their way.
We all know how exceptionally talented they are but it can present it’s own set of challenges. They’ve got so many good players and it can take some time to figure out who the alpha dog is and to find their identity.
This two-week break is the perfect time to do that and, if they get it together, they’re going to be a very, very scary proposition for the entire league.
With the amount of money that’s been spent on them, there's already a lot of pressure on them to perform and we’ll certainly be looking to put as much physical and mental pressure on them on as we can this week.
If we do that we know we have the team that can get the win and start this next block of the season on the right foot.
