This includes a gritty 46-32 victory against Penrith last round – made even more memorable after they lost Keely Davis (dislocated elbow) in the second tackle of the game.

“Against Penrith, we were on the back foot early, losing Keely – which was one of the toughest pills to swallow during me 24 years of coaching,” coach Daniel Lacey said.

“Realistically, the game could have gone two ways from that point but to my girls credit, they fought hard, stayed in the contest and finished off strong.

“We showed in this match why we are one of the most versatile teams in the competition – not relying of just one facet of the game to dominate the contest.

“In particular, Maddinson Weatherall (six tries) and Leanne Jackson (returning from a broken hand) were standouts in the win.”

But their biggest test awaits them this Saturday at WIN Stadium – when they host the also undefeated Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.

As such, the winner of this clash will claim the 2018 minor premiership – ahead of the finals series kicking-off the following weekend.

As it stands, the Sharks sit in first on 16 competition points, with a positive 336 for and against, 84 points better than the Steelers, who also sit on 16 competition points.

With this being the case, coach Lacey is excited for the challenge.

“This week is definitely the biggest test of the season thus far,” he said.

“The last couple of games, we have learnt how to win, as the tries didn’t come as freely as they did in the opening rounds.

“We were also tested on defence, which showed me that the girls are prepared to put their bodies on the line for one another.

“In saying that, we are under no illusions how tough the match will be – the script couldn’t have been played out better, with the minor premiership on the line in the final round.

“Although it [minor premiership] would be great to get, as a byproduct of us winning games, our goal all season has been getting in the top four and getting a second chance in the finals – which it looks like we will achieve.

“At the end of the day, I’m excited to see where we are at going into finals.”

On the day, Lacey’s squad will include Group Seven products Bronte Girdler (Stingrays), Abbey Montgomery (Milton-Ulladulla) and Hannah England (Milton-Ulladulla).

The game kicks-off at 9am.
