The club confirmed last week that Campbell would replace former GM Kim Welch in the front office as what’s set to be one of the liveliest free agency periods in recent memory.
Currently overseeing Scotland’s Commonwealth Games campaign, Beveridge emphatically backed Campbell’s appointment.
“Last year was a horrible year, personally and professionally. On and off the court it was really, really challenging,” Beveridge said.
“You second-guess yourself at times as a coach but the minute I found out was Mat was back involved I thought ‘we’re in good shape here’.
“We always wanted to have him as GM. The passion, the energy, the respect that he brings to our club is just unbelievable. You can’t put a dollar figure on that.
“I think it’s really lifted the hopes of the club again because there was so much doubt around what was going on. I’m just so damn happy and excited to have him as a GM.”
Free-agency opens next week and, after AJ Ogilvy took up the option on his contract, Beveridge and Campbell will be looking to the fill the remaining 10 roster positions.
“Free agency’s going to be very, very interesting, there’s no doubt about that but we’ve got a plan and we’re moving forward with it and hopefully we can make some announcements soon,” Beveridge said.
