A total of $10,000 in donations have been distributed to five Illawarra charities, community groups and other organisations nominated by the Rotary Clubs of the Northern Illawarra.
On Monday, Mark and Kerry Bright from WOI organisers Bright Events Management handed over the funds from the proceeds of WOI 2018.
Donations of $2000 each were made to the five Rotary club-nominated groups.
The recipients are PCYC Twilight Tournaments (nominated by Rotary Club of Wollongong); Disability Trust Sport and Recreation programs (Rotary Club of Illawarra Sunrise); Dolly Parton Imagination Library (Rotary Club of Corrimal); Aspect South Coast School (Rotary Club of Fairy Meadow); and Illawarra Koori Men’s Support Group/School Kids Indigenous Peer Program (Rotary Club of West Wollongong).
Illawarra Koori Men’s Support Group family support worker Brad Anderson said the funds would be used to purchase art supplies and other items for the school students participating in the School Kids Indigenous Peer Program.
Organisers estimate a crowd of about 40,000 attended WOI on May 5-6.
