Residents in Mowbray Park noticed the roo was stuck down an eight-metre well on their property.
The residents called WIRES, who called the RSPCA and then Fire and Rescue crews was called.
Firefighters from Liverpool Fire and Rescue’s technical crew also attended the scene.
Picton fire captain Bill Morris said the crew was called at about 1pm.
“The RSPCA tranquillized the kangaroo before we sent down ropes,” he said.
“Then one of crew went down the well, bagged the roo and hauled it back up.
“It was unusual how the roo managed to get itself into the well.
“It must have jumped over the side and fell down.
“There was a little bit of blood but nothing seemed to be broken because it was hopping around.”
Mr Morris said the kangaroo was under observation at University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Camden.
