In recent weeks members have been feverishly preparing their colourful range of native orchids to show and sell at their annual spring show.
Native orchids of all shapes, sizes and colours will be displayed on September 8-9.
Illawarra Native Orchid Society secretary Bruce Porter said there will be a large display of flowering native orchids as well as a sales area with native orchids and other interesting plants, including succulents, bromeliads and carnivorous pitcher plants.
“The sales area will have orchids from seedling size to flowering size, as well as pots and books,” Mr Porter said.
“Members are available to answer questions and there are free printed growing instructions.”
The society will also offer its popular repotting service, enabling the public to bring in their overgrown and neglected orchids to be divided and spruced up by experts for a nominal fee, covering potting mix and pots.
The free show runs from 9am to 4pm on the Saturday and 9am to 3pm on the Sunday at the Old Courthouse in Cliff Road, Wollongong
Mr Porter said the Old Courthouse was an ideal location as people can enjoy an orchid show at the beach.

Meantime the Illawarra District Orchid Society is turning 67 and it will celebrate as it always does.
The region’s “original orchid society” will hold its 67th annual spring show at Warilla Senior Citizens Centre on September 15-16.
Society vice-president Peter Frey said visitors to the show will see a spectacular display of various types of orchids.
“There will be sales tables with a large variety of flowering orchids and other plants for sale as well as orchid potting supplies which includes pots, potting mixes and fertilisers for orchids,” he said.
“If anyone has any concerns with the health and growing of their orchids we will have members of the society available to give you free advice on the growing and health of your orchids.
Entry to the 67th annual spring show is free.
The two-day show runs from 9.30am to 4pm on Saturday and 9am to 3pm on Sunday.
The raffle of a “'beautiful cymbidium orchid”' will be drawn on Sunday at 2pm. Details at sec.illawarra.district.o.s@outlook.com
