Bureau of Meteorology rainfall forecasts suggest some coastal parts of NSW – including Wollongong – could be drenched by between 50 and 100 millimetres of rain between now and next Tuesday.
The rain is set to arrive in the Illawarra on Wednesday, with a medium chance of showers forecast during the late afternoon or the evening.
The inclement weather will follow a warm day, which should see temperatures reach 25 degrees at Albion Park and 23 in Wollongong.
At this stage, the city’s wettest day will be Thursday – when between 30 and 40 millimetres of rain is possible.
Friday and Saturday could both see further falls of up to 15mm each day.
The showers are forecast to ease on Saturday afternoon.
The rain is associated with a low pressure system, which is forecast to move through western NSW on Wednesday and reach the coast during Friday.
“This system is likely to bring some rain to most NSW districts for the second half of the week, before moving over the Tasman Sea during the weekend,” the bureau’s forecast said.
