The fourth generation wine maker has been in Wollongong twice in recent weeks hosting dinners at Caveaux and Centro CBD and said he had enjoyed some of the best meals in the country.
The latest at Centro CBD continues a recent push by Robert Specogna and Michael Arbelias who plan to do more.
“I think Wollongong is having a wine and food renaissance,” Mr Tyrrell said.
“It has always been a good market”.
He said the impact of China on the Australian wine industry was amazing.
“It is the biggest wine market in the world now. That is at all levels from day to day drinking to the very high end. I think Asia in the next 25 years is where Australia has got to make its mark”.
Mr Tyrrell also sees a future where cannabis is used in wine.
His other connection to the Illawarra is making wine for Coolangatta Estate’s Bishop family after harvest every year.
“They are terrific people,” he said.
