WHSPA students excelled in HSC showcases and exhibitions of exemplary student work.
Jessica Jenkins was one of the four WHSPA students nominated for ARTEXPRESS – an annual exhibition featuring a selection of outstanding student artworks developed for the artmaking component of the HSC examination in Visual.
Jenkins was nominated for a series of oil paintings named Yonda.
“It was based on my grandparents’ farm and I really enjoyed using oil paint for the first time and I was really proud of how the whole work turned out,” she said.
Singer Tylah Heaney was of three students from the school selected for the ENCORE program, which rewards outstanding performances and compositions by students from the HSC Music examinations.
“I really have enjoyed WHSPA’S music. I think they have an awesome program,” Heaney said.
“When I came into the school I was kind of like fragile and really shy. But when I left for the first time I was much more confident.”
WHSPA students especially excelled in the OnSTAGE exhibition which features exemplary individual and group projects by HSC Drama students.
Harrison Covetz and Cody Mathews were among the many to secure individual and group nominations.
“My individual performance actually got the position on onstage next year so I will actually be performing at the Seymour Centre next February, which is really awesome,” Covetz said.
Contemporary dancer and actor Mathews was also “really proud”.
Chris Richards, who heads the performing arts department at WHSPA, said students and teachers deserved a lot of credit.
“They've been selected in multiple areas within the dance subjects so they are very strong performers, good choreographers and very good at writing. That all round effort has resulted in these great results,” he said.
“It is a privilege to get one, let alone a school that gets multiples in one subject. To get them in dance, drama, music and visual arts is a rare thing.”
