A cold front moving across southern and central NSW will bring a vigorous southerly wind change late this afternoon and into the evening, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
It anticipates damaging winds averaging 65km/h, with peak gusts of 90km/h, across the warning area.
The bureau said Wollongong, Bulli, Port Kembla, Kiama, Sydney and Huskisson are likely to be affected.
The State Emergency Service advised people to move their vehicles under cover or away from trees and secure loose items around the house, yard and balcony.
