The future of the 2020 Spring Into Corrimal is still up in the air but there is plenty of colour around the suburb with the first of several new artworks now complete.

A new mural near the pool entrance and Corrimal Library was painted by Mandy Schone Salter and is the result of Wollongong City Council, Corrimal Chamber of Commerce and the Corrimal Region Action Group (CRAG) working together to help beautify the area.
Cr Jenelle Rimmer said all the new artworks will be in prominent locations including the installation of light boxes at Luke's Place, Memorial Park and another mural on a large wall at Corrimal Rangers Football Club near the tennis courts.
"We had some money left over from a Corrimal shopfront improvement program and instead of the money going back into general revenue I worked with the council to make sure it was still spent in Corrimal. So we came up with a plan to do some murals," Cr Rimmer said.
"We want to make sure we keep revitalising the town centre and this is one of many projects were are doing. We are also in the middle of stage one of a footpath renewal project. We are widening footpaths, putting new pathing down and making them safer for everyone while brightening the suburb up with some beautiful new murals.
"We are working with RMS to move the traffic lights at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Railway St. There were no pram ramps. So we are moving the traffic lights back a little".
Spring Into Corrimal chair Paul Boultwood said with COVID-19 it was still too early to tell whether the festival will go ahead in 2020. But it was great to be able to bring plenty of colour and attention to Corrimal and lift everyone's spirits with new artworks.
Mr Boultwood said it all worked in well with the Corrimal Town Plan the chamber, council and CRAG worked on in 2015 with great input from the community. "We still want people to come in and see that Corrimal is a great place to live, work and play".
Mr Boultwood said murals were also a great deterrent to graffiti.
Asked what would happen if all coronavirus restrictions were lifted on large gatherings before September he said getting enough sponsors on board in time to stage Spring Into Corrimal would be difficult.
"But if we could get the sponsors quickly we would go ahead if that was possible," he said.
Cr Rimmer said it was important to keep breathing life into all Wollongong suburbs and the Corrimal artworks and footpath upgrades were great examples of good activation.
