Bulli - who finished eighth in the 2019 Illawarra Premier League - secured a 5-0 win over District League side Oak Flats Falcons at Balls Paddock on Saturday afternoon.
Ben McDonald scored a double for the winners.
With the IPL kicking off in a fortnight, Bulli have shown they could be among the premiership contenders.
Falcons coach Nathan Minutillo is convinced they will be.
"We fought hard, we knew the task ahead was going to be pretty difficult playing the reigning champions," he said.
"They're going to be contenders in their own right. I think they're going to be pretty competitive, they're going to be up again there this year. They were missing a few players.. and the players they've picked up are really strong."
However, despite being the underdogs, Minutillo was proud that his Falcons stuck to their task all game.
"The boys stuck to their game plan and fought hard, but unfortunately that result happened. We'll take it in our own stride and continue to push forward with the competition starting in a few weeks," the coach said.
"It came down to how well we were going to defend on the day really and the boys persevered really well with it. I'm pretty happy with how they hung in there and they can hold their heads high."

Bulli coach Julio Miranda said it was a good win but was happy to praise the Falcons for their performance.
"They were pretty good. They have some decent players and they probably had the better for the first five, 10 minutes. But I thought after that we controlled it and kept the ball well, and we looked good in some parts which showed in the score line," he said.
"I haven't seen too much of the District League lately, but I thought they were good. They were defensively pretty well drilled and I'd imagined they will be in the top two or three in that league."
After booking their spot in the Cup quarter finals, Miranda said his players were in good spirits for the year ahead.
"They're a really good group of lads. They all want to work pretty hard and, at the moment, they're all happy which is a good thing to have at the club," he said.
Coniston also moved into the Cup quarter finals with a 2-1 win over 2019 IPL winners Corrimal and Albion Park White Eagles defeated Port Kembla 3-1 on Sunday.
Woonona recorded a 2-1 win over South Coast United, Bellambi defeated Olympic 3-1, Wollongong United beat Thirroul 3-1, Cringila sealed a 4-1 victory over Tarrawanna while Helensburgh thumped Picton by 6-2.
