The newly dubbed "South" Coast Suns have spent the past fortnight in the Illawarra as part of sweeping changes brought into effect due to the COVID-19 crisis in Victoria.
The Suns will cap their trip by facing the Swans at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday afternoon before heading back to Queensland.
Forward Nick Holman said the Suns had enjoyed being in Wollongong but were concentrating on the task at hand: trying to win their fourth game in 2020.
"Wollongong is a nice place, it has a nice beach and really good coffee. The boys have really enjoyed themselves, it feels like home after we've been here two weeks," the 25-year-old said.
"We've obviously spend a lot of time together so it is good on the bonding side of things. But it's also good that we can solely just focus on our footy, put the hard work in, and try and get a win.
"We want to continue bringing an exciting brand of footy every week. We don't want to be an inconsistent side, we want to keep working on that and bring our best every week. The competition is so close now and everyone's playing really good footy."
However, the Suns' time in NSW hasn't totally gone to plan. The side lost to Geelong the night before arriving in Wollongong, before falling to the Demons last weekend.
Saturday afternoon offers a chance for Gold Coast to snap that losing streak. The visitors will start as favourites against the struggling Swans, who have lost stars Josh Kennedy (knee) and Isaac Heeney (ankle) to injury.
But Holman - who will play his 50th AFL game this week - refuses to underestimate their opponents.
"We're expecting Sydney's best. They'll bring their contested game, we'll have to match it - that's our strength as well. If we bring our best, we know we can beat them," the forward said.
"We don't look too far past this week but we really need this win to get into the [top] eight."
It's been an action-packed week for the Suns ahead of the round seven clash.
On Monday, Izak Rankine received this week's AFL's Rising Star nomination after a superb debut against Melbourne, where he booted three goals, laid three tackles and had 12 disposals to nearly drag his side over the line.
Two days later, the Suns confirmed coach Stuart Dew had signed a two-year contract extension. Gold Coast also announced on Wednesday that they were closing in on the club's all-time membership record of 14,131, set in their inaugural season (2011).
"We've had a couple of really solid pre-seasons and the boys are gelling really well together and playing good footy," Holman said.
"We're stoked with all of the support from our members, it really means a lot that we're close to breaking that record. I think we're really building something special at the club and hopefully we can get a few more members to jump on board.
"It's an exciting time for the club."
