Four of the five are linked to the Liverpool private health clinic cluster - which has grown to seven cases - while the fifth is believed to be an old case, from August, linked to the Liverpool Hospital dialysis cluster.
Of the four new cases, three are in the same household.
A further five positive cases are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she was pleased to see the number of tests at almost 13,000 people in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday.
While no new potential infection locations in the south-west have been announced - following Wednesday's alert that one of the positive cases visited Kmart at Narellan Town Centre on Saturday, October 2, between 6pm and 7pm - NSW Chief Medical Officer Dr Kerry Chant announced that passengers on a number of train services in the past week are to be considered casual contacts.
These contacts must monitor for COVID-19 symptoms - including a scratching through, fever and coughing - and get tested immediately if even the slightest symptoms appear, isolating until they receive a negative result.
Several of the train services were in the south-west:
- Train from Moss Vale 04:52 arriving Liverpool 07:09 on October 6
- Train from Liverpool 16:58 arriving Moss Vale 19:12 on October 6
- Train from Moss Vale 04:51 arriving Liverpool 07:08 on October 7
- Train from Campbelltown 13:31 arriving Moss Vale 15:50 on October 7
Dr Chant urged everyone to be on high alert for symptoms and to monitor the NSW Health website for updated potential exposure points in the coming days.
