Menulog marketing director Simon Cheng says he is genuinely sorry for a new billboard at Kembla Grange incorrectly spelling the city's name as Woollongong and wants to make it up to the community.

When Illawarra Mercury readers alerted the newspaper to the error on Wednesday it sparked conversation about whether it was intentional, with some people suggesting it may have been a deliberate marketing ploy.
The marketing department at Menulog was then contacted and Mr Cheng's initial response was surprise.
He said "whooops with an extra O" and immediately took responsibility for the error. The food delivery company was on the case and would be doing something about the incorrect spelling, he said.

Comments made on the Illawarra Mercury Facebook page and social media included some people describing the sign as "marketing genius" while others suggested it was disrespectful of Wollongong if it was deliberate.
Mr Cheng wasted no time saying how he and Menulog were sorry and would do something straight away on the company's website to make it up to local residents.
"While we are loving the speculation and chat about Menulog in Wollongong, this was a genuine mistake," he said.
