It was the second time the Longest Day event has been played in Wollongong and Mr Bloomfield said it was more important than ever after such a tough fundraising year for all charities.
"The Longest Day appeals to golfers and is staged around the summer solstice," he said.
"We are playing the equivalent of four rounds of golf. All the entry fees from the event go to the Cancer Council and individuals and teams are also raising money. As a result we have raised over $70,000."
The Longest Day is a nationwide event but Wollongong alone on Monday accounted for around 10 per cent of the total funds raised in 2020.
"Wollongong Golf Club has very much embraced it."
Mr Trigg also returned for his second year on Monday after being involved in Relay For Life for more than a decade with his coffee van. He has also organised six annual golf day events himself at Wollongong Golf Club for the Cancer Council.
Mr Trigg's said the four rounds of golf he played on Monday were in memory of Claude Cellini who died of cancer last year. "The Golf Club has come on board and it is raising good money for such an important cause."
