Vice president operations Wayne Bull said for Clean Up Australia Day workers from the regional operations centre in Wollongong and Dendrobium Mine volunteered their time to collect rubbish from North Beach, Stuart Park and around the mine.
Litter collected from the foreshore included plastic containers, cigarette butts, food and wrappers.
There was also a single diver's fin, broken toys, a backpack, cooking grill and a beachball.
All items collected by the South32 teams were sorted into recyclable and non-recyclable materials and disposed of appropriately.
Clean Up Australia Day is on March 7 but separate days have been set aside for schools and businesses to undertake clean-ups.
