The Chilli Project's Habanero Hot Sauce was named the second best medium heat chilli sauce in Australia and New Zealand. The acknowledgement comes a year after its Jalapeno Hot Sauce was named the nation's Best Mild Chilli Sauce.
Business owner and sauce maker Michelle Walsh said it was the continuation of a hot streak that has resulted in seven awards in three years.
"We are so excited to have received a Mr Chilli Award for our Habanero Hot Sauce in the first year of entering it into a competition. There is such a high standard of sauces across Australia and New Zealand, so we are really thrilled to be acknowledged for our focus on flavour."
The winning sauce features fiery Australian red Habanero chillies combined with carrots.
Ms Walsh said it was a delicious addition to anything Mexican-inspired.
She said during COVID-19 the cancellation of major festivals and events had impacted her business.
"We have had to re-direct our focus," she said.
"Our sauces are now available in fine food retailers across Australia, and of course, on our website.
"Our customers, and in particular our local Illawarra community, have been extremely supportive and for that we are so thankful".
The Chilli Project sauces are made from fresh Australian grown chillies and nothing artificial. There are nine sauces in the collection, ranging from mild to extreme heat, so there is a sauce for all palates.
