Brian Goorjian's men sit in fourth spot on the ladder - behind the Phoenix on percentage and one win ahead of Sydney - following Friday night's 84-73 victory over the Breakers in New Zealand to remain well in contention for the NBL playoffs.
They will now play their remaining regular season games at the WEC, starting on Sunday afternoon against the 36ers.
"It's really exciting. Something that we've been aiming for the entirety of the year is to control our destiny. That's what we wanted going down the stretch," White said.
"I think, for a while there, we were almost chasing the feeling around the middle of the season. And now we don't necessarily speak about it, but in the back of our heads we know it's crunch time. We know we need results."
The Hawks, sporting their new indigenous jerseys, trailed by two points at the main break, but a superb 47-34 second half secured the win at The Stockyard on Friday night.
Tyler Harvey was again the standout for Illawarra, finishing with 30 points eight rebounds and five steals, while Sam Froling had 22 points and eight boards in his 50th NBL game. For the Breakers, Finn Delany scored 24 points.
The Hawks will wear their indigenous jerseys again when they face Adelaide on Sunday.
"We're excited to now go home and play in front of what should be a packed house. Every game we're playing for lives, so we've got to bring that intensity with us on Sunday," White said.
"But it's a good feeling, happy to win and control all of this, and we're feeling confident."
